Choice of service level: small van, 3.5ton Luton with tail lift or 7.5ton truck.

Choice of staff level: Starting with one man and one van through to two/three vans, two/three removal men and two ladies packing goods and if required, vacuuming the house, wiping skirting boards, cleaning windows, shampooing carpets/upholstery etc

The one man and one van option is an excellent choice if you want to assist with your own move and save on costs. For example, a customer moving from a flat in London to Cornwall could save by making a local arrangement for additional help at the point of loading, thereby saving the cost of paying for an extra man to travel to and from Cornwall. On the other hand, those who prefer the traditional removal service can also be catered for.

Customers should note that we are essentially a budget removal service. Although we exercise a proper duty of care, our operating practices reflect the prices we charge. For example, customers are responsible for protecting delicate surfaces [such as light coloured carpets] and when loading goods for transportation, thick blankets will be used to protect furniture, electrical items, mirrors, beds etc. If we pack, clothes will be folded and stored in clean boxes as opposed to temporary [and expensive] cardboard wardrobes. Also crockery might be wrapped in customer’s tea towels before placing in boxes [an efficient, environmentally friendly and cost saving packing method used by mothers since time immemorial]. We could operate a more salubrious service, but prices would need to rise to reflect this level of service.

Vans:

Vans come complete with driver, sack trucks, webbing ties, tool kit and a number of thick, ex-British Army, blankets to protect customers goods in transit.

Small van: volume approx. 90cu ft; load length 6.5ft, load width 4.5ft, load height 4ft. Two passengers can be carried. Used for student moves, multiple drops and single item/small volume pickups.

3.5ton Luton with tail lift: volume approx. 650cu ft; load length 13.5ft, load width 7 ft, load height 7ft plus space above cab. Two passengers can be carried. Used to move one or two bedroom flat or house (light to medium furnished).

7.5 ton truck*: volume approx 1280cu ft; load length 20 ft, load width 8 ft, load height 8 ft. two passengers can be carried. Used for three or four bedroom house (light to medium furnished).

We are a small move specialist, therefore our maximum sized move of any distance would be 1280cu ft. This equates to light to medium furnished four-bedroom house.

As a rule of thumb regarding large items, a light to medium furnished four bedroom house might contain one double bed and three single beds, a modest amount of bedroom furniture, a three piece suite, a dining suite/wall unit, corner unit, a cooker, microwave oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and a medium chest freezer, a washing machine and tumble dryer, a patio set, small shed, garden tools, small barbecue and some bikes. This level of move is well within our capability.

However, a heavily furnished four bedroom house might contain three double beds, two/three bedroom suites, two dining suites, bureau, two three piece suites, piano, range cooker, microwave oven, American style upright fridge and freezer, large chest freezer, industrial washing machine and tumble dryer, dishwasher, filing cabinet, conservatory suite, copious amounts of patio furniture, a large garden shed, ladders, rolls of carpet, outdoor play equipment, large barbecue, umpteen garden urns, exercise equipment, golf trolley/clubs, bikes, canoe, skiing/diving kit etc. As our maximum size move is 1280 cu ft via a 7.5 ton truck, and such a vehicle is unable to cope with this volume of goods, a long distance move of this size is beyond our capability.

On the other hand, one 3.5 Luton van will hold [approx]: 3-piece suite, t.v. unit, corner unit, coffee table, washer, cooker, dryer, microwave, fridge/freezer, double bed, single bed, 2 wardrobes, dressing table, 2 bedside cabinets, 30 - 40 medium sized boxes and bags. Obviously, a 7.5 ton truck, or another 3.5 ton Luton, will carry double this volume of goods.

*For reasons of versatility (cramped Cornish villages and congested English towns) we now use two 3.5ton Lutons instead of one 7.5ton truck.
