PRICES
Customers should note that we are essentially a budget removal company. Therefore our prices reflect our operating practices. We charge by the hour for the services we provide. This prevents customers from being surprised by the final bill.
For removals, billing time runs from the time we leave Bodmin until the time we return to Bodmin. For packing and cleaning, billing starts from the time our personnel arrive at the customer’s premises until the time they leave. Note: customers wishing to have their small items unpacked at locations outside of Cornwall should contact us first
The price we quote is not an estimate. It will be a firm and binding quotation for work done based on an hourly rate. Customers should be wary of firms who provide only a rough estimate of cost.
There is a legal difference between accepting a quotation and accepting an estimate. A quotation is a fixed price agreement that cannot be changed. An estimate is a flexible price provided by the company that is non-binding. Unscrupulous companies often consider an estimate to be a ‘blank cheque’.
We do not charge VAT. We will not add any fuel or mileage charges to the hourly rate quoted. There are no excesses to be paid for awkward items, inclement weather, flights of stairs climbed or distance parked from front door etc
All we ask is that customers notify us of their full circumstances i.e. distance involved, access, volume/quantity of goods and other services required and we will provide a firm written quotation based on the hours we calculate the job will take. Provided you have notified us of your full circumstances, and there are no delays outside of our control (no keys to house, sofa will not go up the stairs etc) the price quoted is the price paid.
Example of some House Removals Prices (assume fully packed]):
Local move
As a rough guide only, the cost of moving the contents of a one or maybe two-bedroom property [approx. I full Luton] from Bodmin to Bodmin would be £170, or £120 using our one man and van service (with customer assistance). VAT is not charged.
The rough cost of moving the contents of a one or maybe two-bedroom property (approx. I full Luton) from St Austell to Newquay (20 miles) would be £240, or £180 using our one man and van service (with customer assistance) Vat is not charged.
Moving the contents of a medium furnished four-bedroom house from St Austell to Newquay would cost approx. £540 [two men and two vans], £400 [two men and one van doing two trips] or £300 [one man and one van doing two trips with customer assistance]. VAT is not chargeable.
National move
Moving one load via 650 cu ft Luton from the West London area to central Cornwall would cost approx. £700 (two men), or £540 using our one man and van service (no VAT).
For moves up to a medium furnished four-bedroom property the cost for the same trip using two men and one 7.5 ton lorry or two 3.5 ton Lutons would be approx. £1000 (no VAT).
London bases customers should note that our prices are based on the proverbial Cornish low-wage economy. We are therefore able to undercut the equivalent London-based removal firm quoting for the same job.
Advisory note.
There are many factors that affect the cost of removals, i.e. steps to a property, availability of lift, number of floors in a house, distance parked from property, volume and type of goods, parking fees or penalties, unforeseen waiting time etc, so these cost estimates only serve as a guide. It is therefore imperative that customers fully acquaint us with their circumstances when asking for a fixed price quote.
Non-UK move
Cornwallmanandvan also undertake moves to Ireland and continental Europe. For practical reasons, non-UK moves are not quoted on an hourly basis. Would customers moving goods to or from any non-UK territory please notify us of the details so that we can provide a fixed price quote.
*PRESS REPORT IN SOUTH FLORIDA ‘SUN-SENTINEL’ NEWSPAPER * January 25th 2008
Several included in case involving fraud charges
A group of removal firms, most from South Florida, has been indicted by a California grand jury on claims they defrauded and extorted fees from hundreds of consumers nationwide. The indictment alleges the movers used low estimates to secure business, then raised their fees after taking possession of customers' property. The movers withheld delivery until customers paid the fraudulently inflated price, the indictment alleges. |
